Where to live in Marbella and around: area guide

Last reviewed: October 2026 · Claudia Delgado Peralta

The western Costa del Sol has very different areas just minutes apart. Choosing the right area matters as much as choosing the right home.

Marbella town and old quarter

Year-round town life: shops, restaurants, schools, services and the seafront promenade. The old quarter, around Plaza de los Naranjos, has whitewashed pedestrian streets. Ideal if you want to do everything on foot.

The Golden Mile

Between Marbella and Puerto Banús, by the sea, with some of the most exclusive hotels and villas on the coast. For those looking for prestige, beach and being close to everything.

Puerto Banús

The famous marina, with luxury shops, restaurants and nightlife. Very popular for second homes and rental investment.

Nueva Andalucía

Known as the "Golf Valley" for its courses (Los Naranjos, Las Brisas, Aloha). Developments with gardens and pools, international schools nearby and just minutes from Puerto Banús. Great for families and golfers.

San Pedro Alcántara

Part of Marbella with a village feel, a pedestrian boulevard and somewhat more moderate prices. A good option for living all year round.

Estepona

It has changed a lot in recent years: a flower-filled old town, a renewed promenade, plenty of new builds and the "New Golden Mile" towards Marbella. It often offers more space for the same price.

Benahavís

A mountain village minutes from the coast, famous for its restaurants, with quiet developments, views and nature, and very exclusive estates such as La Zagaleta or El Madroñal. For those who want privacy and calm without being far from Marbella.
